Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search box is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. We do not keep or log those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
We retain an email message as needed to answer it. Messages remain within our organization unless disclosure is required by a legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, servers automatically receive basic technical information about the visit:
- Page-view times
- Your device's IP address
- Browser name and version
- Operating system and device category
- Visited pages and time spent on them
- A referring site, when one exists
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help show broad usage patterns, such as popular pages and common exit points. Analytics providers combine that traffic information for reporting. You may block cookies through browser controls, although some website functions may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing a search request to the selected outside provider
- Maintaining reliable and efficient site operation
- Diagnosing errors and other technical faults
- Measuring which resources visitors use
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
We do not own, compile, sell, or maintain a database of personal criminal records. The content describes how to reach custodians of Crawford County records, including the sheriff, local courts, Michigan State Police Criminal Justice Information Center, and Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party criminal profiles.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information submitted there falls under that provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider controls its retention and disclosure rules. Read those terms before running a search.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Crawford County offices, Michigan agencies, court portals, legal resources, or outside search services. Once you follow a link, the destination's privacy policy controls. Review it before providing personal information.
Some advertising providers may use cross-site activity to select ads. That processing occurs on the provider's systems.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Advertising networks serving ads on these pages
- Search providers processing a query you submit
- Analytics vendors measuring traffic and performance
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable standard safeguards protect collected data. No internet-connected service can guarantee absolute security, so we cannot promise that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If such information is identified, we will remove it.
Your Data Rights
Rights may vary by residence and applicable law. Michigan FOIA, MCL 15.231 et seq., governs access to qualifying government records but does not turn this private website into a public body. The Bureau of Criminal Identification Act, MCL 28.241 et seq., addresses Michigan State Police criminal-history repository and dissemination functions. You may:
- Opt out of certain processing where the law provides that choice
- Request deletion of personal data we hold
- Ask to see information maintained about you
- Seek correction of inaccurate information
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised. An updated version and its new effective date will appear here, so later visits should use the version then posted.
Effective date: July 27, 2026
